How Much Do I Need?

Tips:

  • Most applications require mixing the tablets in water only.
  • The active ingredients entirely dissolve during mixing.
  • To save time and to achieve total mixing of a large number of tablets use an electric hand blender. Total mixing using a blender takes only a few seconds. Mix an adequate amount of liquid to assure adequate blender action. You might see some foam and particles on top of the solution; these are inert particles which do not affect the results.
  • Mix solution for one time use. Discard the unused portion.
  • Active Ingredients entirely dissolve in water up to 20 tablets per liter (100 ppm IBA)
    Tablets can be dissolved to higher concentrations using a small amount of alcohol to dissolve then add an additional amount of water to bring the solutionup to full concentration.
  • Use a plastic container. Do not use metal.
  • Water: use clean water preferably distilled or de-ionized.
  • Alcohol: use methyl or isopropyl or ethyl.
  • Dissolve tablets at 68F - 80F. The warmer temperature speeds the dissolving.

How to make a Rooting GEL:
The corn starch approach is an INEXPENSIVE WAY to use Hortus IBA Water Soluble Salts and Rhizopon AA Water Soluble Tablets rooting solutions to make gels in an INFINITE range of rates

The following table gives examples to make 1 liter (1000 ml) of solution.
Using the metric measure makes it easy to adjust the number of tables and volume of liquid according to the volume of liquid desired.

How to dissolve

Mixing methods

0-5 tablets per liter Dissolve in water. Mix manually or use blender
5-10 tablets per liter Dissolve in water. Mix using an electric hand blender
11-200 tablets per liter Make an initial concentration using the minimum amount of solution to dissolve the tablets @ 50% water + 50% alcohol.

Dilute with water to make working concentration.

Over 200 tablets per liter Dissolve in 25% water + 75% alcohol.

How to make a Rooting GEL

When making a gel based solution, use one of many standard gel products from your horticultural supply.
You can also use corn starch from the food market.

Using Hortus IBA Water Soluble Salts or Rhizopon AA Water Soluble Tablets, mix in water to make a rooting solution at any concentration.
Then, add the powder or corn starch to the rooting solution until you get needed ‘gel peaks' or somewhat watery solution as needed. (When using corn starch, made the rooting solution using warm temperature, like what comes from a hot water heater. This will nake easier mixing.)

The resultant 'concentration' is defined as ‘parts per volume’. The rooting 'gel' will be higher volume than the original water based rooting solution.
